MPA Escarpment Trip and SOCIAL!!!

On Thursday, November 23rd we're going to be having a fun-filled MPA night!

It's going to start off with a night photography trip to the Hamilton escarpment via HSR (meet at 6:30pm outside the McMaster Museum of Art), and then on to the Phoenix at 9pm for an MPA social. All are welcome to attend both events.

END OF YEAR GALLERY

We've finally set a date for the End of the Year Gallery

Date: March 21!!
Location: Student Centre Marketplace

Now's the time to start thinking about photos you might want to submit. Photos can be B&W, colour or digital and preferably 8x10.

For those of you who have come out to the trips, there is going to be a section specifically for trip photos.

March 21 is also Stop Racism Day, so if anyone has any photos that are relevant to this cause feel free to submit and we will post them.

Submissions will begin in second semester closer to the date of the gallery.
All pictures will be returned to owners.

So everyone get out those cameras and start shooting!

Darkroom Access

Everyone that has purchased a film membership as of October 28th, 2006 should now be able to access the darkroom.

How to gain acess:
Go to the second floor of the security office by Mary Keyes. Hand them your student card, and they will give you a key in exchange. There is no time restriction on how long you can keep the key (as long as you don't need your student card), but since there are only two keys available, please be considerate of others and only keep the key for as long as you really need it. The security office is open 24/7, so feel free to do your photography whenever you like!

Also:
- There is a sign-in book in the darkroom, please sign-in and tell us what you've been up to in the darkroom and what chemicals may need to be replaced. Our darkroom managers clean and restock weekly.
-Please take note of the workshop times that are listed on the website. These workshops have priority for darkroom use.
- Put up the "darkroom in use" sign while you're in so that no one walks in while you're developing. Similarly, knock before entering, just to make sure!

Additional membership and film/paper sale times will be posted soon!

October Field Trip

Hey MPA!

On Saturday, October 28th, we're going to be going to York Boulevard via HSR to take some photos at a cemetery and of Dundurn castle. This trip is FREE (as long as you have a bus pass) and open to everyone! If you guys are interested, please meet outside the McMaster Museum of Art at 11am.

McMaster's art magazine Between the Lines wants to publish your work! If you have any photos, regardless of the subject matter, send it to betweenthelines@gmail.com or drop if off at their office located in Wentworth House B/118. Make sure to include your name and contact information.
Between the Lines prints four times a year and are looking for photos for each issue so feel free to send as many photos as you like!

Night Photography Workshop

Hey MPA,

We'll be meeting on Thursday October 19th in the student center by the fireplace at 9:00pm to do some night photography around campus.

For those of you who just got your hands on a digital camera, this is a good opportunity to practice working with the manual shooting modes (and see how much fun they are) while someone is around to answer any questions that arise.

Don't forget your tripod, (and gloves!)

Photography Exhibit - The Century Project

The Century Project is composed of photographs of naked women from birth through to the age of 94. Each photograph is accompanied by a statement written by the subject onher life experiences or on what being photographed did for her. These women are all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, and have a wide variety of challenges that they have faced, such as eating disorders, cancer, sexual abuse, physical abuse and disabilities. In addition, some of the women do not claim to have endured any hardships, and simply wanted to be photographed in their birthday suits as a declaration of the level of comfort that they have with themselves.

Tens of thousands of people have seen The Century Project, at universities and in churches, often at the request of women's health groups. Don't miss it. This is its only tour stop in Canada.

Volunteer/Job Opportunity

The Jewish Student's Association and the Gerontology Association are putting together a "Senior Prom" for the residents of Shalom Village, the local Senior's home. We are looking for a student to photograph the event.

The event takes place at 7pm on March 23rd, and is a great cause which would look excellent on a resume. We are willing to pay the photographer but would prefer if someone was kind enough to volunteer their services, since it is a charitable event. Ryerson University is currently holding free lectures from distinguished photographers as part of the Kodak Lecture Series.

Tiffany Falls Trip

Thanks to everyone who came out on the Tiffany Falls trip! It was a beautiful day and a great day for the falls! Although there were some minor setbacks on our first field trip, we're definitely looking into planning more, so if you have any ideas of places you'd like to take pictures, send the suggestions our way!

Important Notice

To the members of the MPA,

As a result of recent events, there have been some problems in the darkroom due to misuse. This unfortunately affected the MPA table in the student centre on Friday that some of you were expecting. These issues have also caused the darkroom to be shut down the past couple of days, but it will reopen on Tuesday (24th). We sincerely and wholeheartedly apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused. These were unforeseen circumstances that have occurred and we have been trying to rectify them over the weekend.

In spite of these recent events, the Meet and Greet scheduled for Thursday the 26th at 7pm at the Phoenix, as well as the waterfall trip for Saturday the 28th (meet at 10:30am in the student centre) will go ahead as planned. For any of you that wanted to purchase a membership on Friday, please come to the Meet and Greet in the Phoenix on Thursday. We will be providing free food to any members that are attending and we look forward to meeting with you all!

January Workshops

The workshops for January are listed below, and with the exception of the digital workshop, are for MPA paid members only. The reason for this is because the workshop material fees are included in the membership fees, which would not be fair for paying members. Sorry for any inconvenience. If you would like to become a member, the fee for the term is $20. Please come out to our general meeting on the 16th or stop by our table in the student centre on the 20th to purchase a membership!

These workshops are all intro workshops, so you only have to go to one of each type. More advanced workshops will be offered next month.
